Opting for HD IP Camera Technology

Digital technology, especially in the security industry, is growing at a rapid pace. Axis network camera inventor Martin Gren wrote an article in Security Dealer and Integrator this month outlining the 15 year future of video surveillance. Most notably, he discussed how image quality will continue to improve (imagine, a Terapixel Network Camera!) and nearly all security cameras with be HDTV compliant.

HD Security Cameras are becoming widespread from industry leaders Axis, Panasonic, and Sony Security, and we should see an even larger HD-network camera boom in 2011.

NYC MTA Equips Metro Buses with Security Cameras

According to silive.com and wsj.com the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority is gearing up for an area wide surveillance project to install security cameras on a fleet of 400 citywide buses.

Equipment cost: Roughly $18,000 per bus (wow!) No doubt they are using IP Cameras comparable to Axis M3113-R or the HD Ready version Axis M3114-R network cameras built for video surveillance in moving vehicles.

It's likely many large cities will follow suit with network cameras in buses, subways, lightrail and other modes of public transportation to protect drivers and riders alike from criminal activity.

Axis Camera Study Concludes IP Camera System Worth The Cost

Last week Axis Communications released a report of its "Total Cost of Ownership" commissioned study measuring the cost savings break point between an analog cctv surveillance system and an IP Camera security system. The final verdict: 14 cameras, which is 18 cameras shy of the 32 cameras suggested in a 2007 study produced by the same research group, Lusax at Lund University in Sweden.

This report reflects the exponential growth in network-based video surveillance technology as well as the shifting change in costs for these widely popular IP video cameras.

Just some food for thought when you're deciding between a future-less cctv video system and a futureproof network camera solution.

Milestone Systems Not Affected By Economic Downturn

Milestone Systems is listed as number five 'Top Ten Companies for Profit Growth' list announced recently by A&S International, according to a recent press release from the company. The surveillance software giant was also listed among the 2010 Security 50.

With the global economic downturn affecting small and large surveillance companies alike, the resilience Milestone has shown during tough financial times proves that the company's superior product offerings and expertise in the video management software sect can withstand economic challenges.

"In the U.S., we are doing particularly well in education, transportation, city surveillance and industrial sectors, with retail slowly coming back, as well," says Lars Thinggaard, President & CEO, Milestone Systems.
